Vertical ridge augmentation in esthetic and posterior sites : Current techniques and future perspectives

Vertical augmentation of severely deficient sites in the posterior and aesthetic sites is still challenging, despite a vast literature support and long-term follow-ups are available.

Among the numerous surgical techniques proposed, autogenous bone block grafting, GBR, and protected regeneration with titanium meshes are the best documented procedures.

The aim of the lecture are to present :
a)  predictable surgical protocols for the regeneration of severely atrophic ridges by comparing advantages and disadvantages of the 3 previously cited techniques; and
b) how digital technologies have contributed to the simplification of  planning and treatment of a clinical case affected by severe defects.

The author will present his personal experience and the most updated literature data on the main regeneration techniques available today.

Learning objectives

At the end of the presentation, the participant should be able to

  • Plan a clinical case following the principles of PGR (Prosthetically Guided Regeneration)
  • Choose the appropriate grafting materials according to each technique chosen
  • Plan the appropriate timing of implant placement in the regenerated areas
  • Manage soft tissue defects associated to hard tissue deficiencies
  • Optimize planning and treatment via a digital workflow
