Public Transportation

From the Airport

Singapore’s Changi Airport is one of the busiest and best connected in the world, handling over 100 airlines flying to some 300 cities. There are four local carriers, including the world-renowned Singapore Airlines and its budget airline Scoot.

You can catch the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) in the airport or a taxi just outside the building. The no. 3 MRT takes visitors from the airport to the city center in about 40 minutes.

To get to Singapore Expo from the city center, catch no. 3 MRT to “Expo”, one stop before Changi Airport.

MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) & Bus

Singapore’s MRT system is probably the fastest way to zip around the city. The extensive rail network means that most of Singapore’s key attractions are within walking distance of an MRT station.

The bus network also covers most places in Singapore, is more scenic than the MRT.

To get directly to the Singapore Expo, catch the Downtown Line (blue). Or take the Circle Line (orange) and change for the Downtown Line at “MacPherson”. Both routes take about 40 minutes from downtown to “Expo”

You can buy tickets for single trips, but if you intend to use the MRT and basic bus services frequently use a Singapore Tourist Pass for unlimited travel for one, two or three days or buy an EZ-Link card at any train station that you can top up as necessary.

The Tourist Pass can be bought at the TransitLink Ticket Office at the following MRT stations:

  • Changi Airport
  • Orchard
  • Chinatown
  • City Hall
  • Raffles Place

The taxis are metered, but there may be surcharges depending on when, where and which company’s taxi you board. To get a rough idea of the final fare, check with the driver on the surcharges.

You can hail a taxi on the move or queue for one at a taxi stand. These are found at most shopping malls, hotels and tourist attractions. If you want to book a taxi, you can call a general taxi booking number, 6-DIAL CAB (6342-5222), and your call will be routed to an available taxi company's call center.

If you prefer you can download the Grab app and use it just like Uber to get around town.
