Session 2

Implant/prosthesis material and soft tissue reactions

Is soft-tissue sensitivity to implant and prosthetic materials frequent and to which materials in particular?

Does the “fit” component play a significant role in soft tissue sensitivity?

How good is testing for sensitivity and are there real alternative options available to the patient?

Meet the patient

Alicia is in her 40s and is considering an implant bridge to replace failing teeth. She is in good health although she has a number of allergies and complains of ongoing fatigue. She is a little worried that the implant materials might provoke an allergic reaction. Alicia has heard about non-metal implants and is interested in finding out whether that would be a good option for her.
