Dr Sibongile Mahlangu graduated with BChD at the University of the Western Cape in 2005. She has worked as a dentist in both the public and private sector: first as a sessional dentist at the Wits Oral Health Centre in 2013, then as a full-time dentist in the Wits Oral Health Centre (joint staff) from 2014 to 2018, whilst also being a junior lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand. She completed MSc in Oral Medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2017 and is currently a Registrar in Oral Medicine and Periodontology at the University of the Western Cape.
