Reconstructive approaches to manage peri-implantitis-associated bony defects

Peri-implantitis is a major challenge for dental professionals. The presentation will discuss the current understanding of surgical therapy of peri-implantitis, with a specific focus on reconstructive approaches. We will define relevant goals of therapy and evaluate whether certain techniques are beneficial in achieving these. Data from a recently completed large, multicentre study along with multiple clinical cases will be presented. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of factors relevant for long-term implant survival following treatment of peri-implantitis.

After the lecture you will be able to:

  • state relevant treatment goals.
  • recognize different surgical techniques.
  • discuss potential benefits of the use of reconstructive approaches in the management of peri-implantitis.
