Advantages and shortcomings of fixed implant-prostheses

Implants have revolutionized today's dentistry. Today, we can treat various types of dental gaps with dental implants giving the patient fixed teeth to chew with. New techniques for implant placement have given us possibilities to place implants in more favorable positions and new materials are being developed at a rapid pace giving us excellent aesthetics with less complications. All this together has given the patients their social security back with good function and aesthetics in their daily life. However, it is important to give the patient realistic expectations. There are situations where it is hard to achieve the desired esthetic result. The lecture will describe advantages and shortcomings of fixed implants-prosthesis and how to predict situations where the desired esthetic result cannot be obtained.

After the lecture you will be able to:

  • explain different ways to restore implants.
  • explain how to plan and predict good esthetics.
  • discuss how to give the patient realistic expectations.
  • identify potential pitfalls to be expected during the treatment.
